How The Goddess Lakshmi is Depicted in Hindu Tradition?
In order for you
to always get the facts straight about anything, you need to be sure that you
are looking in the right place. There are many people who have grown really
curious about the Lakshmi, a goddess in the Hindu tradition. The reason for
this is not farfetched. She is a goddess that is considered as being a divine
being charged with one of the most important aspects of human life – wealth. In
one way or the other, whether in a small or a large scale, every person is in
pursuance of wealth.
There are other
names through which Lakshmi wealth can be known as. One of them includes the
honorific name, Shri, which is used to expressing not just her divinity, but
her superiority as a divine being. The goddess also seems to stand as a balance
to humanity. This means she is not a one-sided goddess. This is why illustrations
of her divine being are depicted with her having four arms. These arms are
symbolic of her grasp on four major streams of life. They include self-
realization or self-knowledge, moral life, emotional stability and wealth. The
goddess has her name derived from the Sanskrit word, Laksya.
This word might
be interpreted as aim, to know to understand, and so on. This is one of the
reasons why she is majorly considered as the goddess of self-realization. This
aspect of her being also plays a major role in her illustrious depiction. Two
out of the four of her arms are seen to be holding lotus plants, and she is
seated on one herself. This is proof of how her divine being has so much to do
with self-knowledge. More so, at her arrival at creation, she was envied by other
divine figures for her tremendous abilities and skills. This leads to their
quest to kill her. However, their quest is denied by the great Prajapati.
